When it comes to our health, doing the extra research matters. As you may know, for many years there have been numerous influencers and health coaches who have promoted a meat and fat-centric diet. They claim that carbs are not necessary for optimal health, and have pushed a narrative that relegated fruit to a cheat meal.
We have always believed in a more balanced approach, and have even gone through times of eating lots and lots of fruit along with our steak, but in our minds it was dependent upon either our training intensity or our gut health, and was just another tool in our basket to maintain a peak state.
It was never about optimizing our metabolism - we did that with fat. What we didn’t realize until recently was that for years there has been a growing community of people who claim that your body actually prefers to burn sugar (glucose) as it’s primary fuel, and that fat is the backup fuel.
They also believe that obesity and diabetes are caused by the body being stuck in fat-burning mode, and unable to utilize glucose for fuel.
You may recall that we have an entire series of posts about the denigration of saturated fat and cholesterol and how they are wrongly blamed for heart disease. High cholesterol may be a signal that something is going on, but it is not the cause. That would be like blaming the fire fighter for the fire.
Well it seems that we may have all been duped in the same way about diabetes.
Is it possible that sugar has been given the blame for something that it didn’t cause?
Are blood sugar levels and insulin levels just a signal for what is going wrong in the metabolism of the cell?
Are we again blaming the fire fighter for the fire?
We have come to believe that this may be the case. This is why lowering blood sugar and giving insulin shots to treat a symptom is not helping people cure their real problem - their metabolism.
The information we have consumed on this topic over the past few months has been a lot to wrap our minds around. We want to be able to explain things very clearly for you, so we are trying to get the all of the best information that we can from the best sources.
But, we quickly discovered one important fact: this community, which calls themselves “Pro-Metabolic” or “Bioenergetic,” denigrates one thing more than anything else, just like we do.
In fact, they believe it is the main cause of obesity and diabetes.
We’ll give you one guess…
Turns out that these nasty buggers are not only starting the fire of heart disease, but diabetes as well. Along with countless other nefarious things.
