Winter Skin Care 101

Winter is beautiful, but it can be brutal on your skin. Cold temps, indoor heat, and low humidity all pull moisture from your skin barrier, leaving things feeling tight, flaky, itchy, or dull.

Here’s how to keep your skin healthy, hydrated, and glowing all season long:

1. Hydrate From the Inside Out

Dry skin often starts internally. Increase:

  • Water intake

  • Electrolytes (especially if you drink coffee)

  • Skin-loving fats (grass-fed butter, tallow, ghee, avocado)

  • Minerals (magnesium, trace minerals)

A hydrated body = a hydrated complexion.

2. Switch to Gentle, Non-Stripping Cleansers

Foaming cleansers can dry the skin even more in winter. Choose creamy, oil-based, or low-lather cleansers that protect your moisture barrier.

Recommended: Alitura’s Pearl Cleanser

3. Add a Hydrating Serum

Look for ingredients like:

  • Hyaluronic acid

  • Aloe vera

  • Honey

  • Glycerin

  • Copper peptides (bonus for repair!)

Apply serums to slightly damp skin to pull in more moisture.

Recommended: Alitura Gold Serum

4. Moisturize More Than You Think You Need

Winter is the time to bring out the richer creams, balms, and oils.

  • Apply moisturizer morning + night, and consider “moisture sandwiching”:

damp skin → hydrating serum → moisturizer →  balm layer

Recommended: Alitura Moisturizer or Night Cream

5. Exfoliate… But Gently

Over-exfoliating in winter can make dryness worse.

Aim for:

  • 1–2x/week max

  • Gentle physical scrubs or mild enzyme exfoliants

  • Avoid strong acids if you’re already dry

Recommended: Alitura Meteorite Scrub

6. Use a Humidifier at Night

Indoor heating pulls moisture from the air (and from your skin). Running a humidifier in your bedroom can improve dryness overnight, especially for lips, hands, and the under-eye area.

Bonus: you'll sleep better too.

7. Protect Your Skin Barrier

Your barrier is EVERYTHING for keeping moisture in. Support it with:

  • Ceramides

  • Honey + beeswax

  • Tallow-based balms

  • Rosehip or jojoba oil

  • Minimal ingredients

Avoid fragrance-heavy products, harsh actives, and anything that burns or stings.

8. Don’t Forget the Body

Winter dryness isn’t just the face. Use body lotion after every shower (within 3 minutes), and consider adding:

  • Body oil

  • Tallow balm

  • Shea butter

  • Mineral-rich salt baths

Recommended: Alitura Brightening Body Lotion
