Eating With the Season
Lately we have been thinking about how summer feels even more special when we try to eat with the season.
It's easy to walk into a grocery store and find strawberries in December or squash in March, but there's something magic about picking your own produce and enjoying foods when nature intended.
Summer produce simply tastes like summer.
A perfectly ripe peach dripping down your arm, fresh basil from the garden, juicy watermelon on a hot afternoon, or cucumbers straight from the farmers market don't need much preparation to be hydrating, healthy, and delicious.
Summer brings an abundance of fresh produce, backyard gatherings, cookouts, farmers markets, and simple meals that don't require hours in the kitchen.
As much as I love talking about supplements and wellness routines, sometimes the healthiest thing we can do is get back to the basics: real food, local food, and seasonal food.
Why Seasonal Eating Matters
When fruits and vegetables are harvested at their peak, they tend to taste better, contain more nutrients, and often cost less. Foods that are grown locally and in season don't have to travel thousands of miles before reaching your plate, which means they're often fresher and more flavorful.
Seasonal eating also naturally encourages variety. Instead of eating the same foods year-round, our diets shift with what's available, providing a wider range of vitamins, minerals, and beneficial plant compounds throughout the year.
Our Summer Pantry
While our pantry changes slightly throughout the year, there are a few staples we always make sure to have on hand during the summer months.
* Strawberries
* Blueberries
* Blackberries
* Peaches
* Watermelon
* Cucumbers
* Tomatoes
* Zucchini
* Bell peppers
* Fresh herbs like basil, mint, parsley, and rosemary
These become the foundation of quick meals, snacks, salads, and summer desserts.
Grilling Favorites
Summer is grilling season around our house. We always keep grass-fed and finished beef stocked. Grass-fed beef provides high-quality protein along with nutrients like iron, zinc, B vitamins, and beneficial fats.
Choosing beef and chicken from local farmers whenever possible is a great way to support your community while also knowing where your food comes from.
Burgers, steaks, kabobs, and grilled vegetables make simple, nutrient-dense meals that everyone enjoys. We also love our steam cooker, which is so convenient for easy weeknight meals and backyard gatherings

Sometimes the healthiest choices are the ones our grandparents would recognize: buying produce that's in season, supporting local farmers, cooking simple meals at home, and gathering around the table with people we love.
This summer, consider building your meals around what's growing nearby. Visit a farmers market. Try a new seasonal fruit. Fire up the grill. Keep nourishing snacks on hand for adventures.
Eating with the season isn't just good for your health, it helps reconnect us to the rhythms of nature, our communities, and the simple joy of good food shared with others.
Until next time, be well!
